Another "erratic readings" thread
« on: May 04, 2016, 03:18:58 PM »
So I did my very first Huky roast, pretty exciting! I'm using a "heatsnob" (cheap usb HID thermocouple device) with artisan and found that the readings I was getting were a bit erratic. I wasn't able to follow the RoR in real time at all:

(ignore the overall profile, I was using my own heat source and had no idea how it was going to behave!)

Now I'm not sure where to start, does this look like a grounding issue like others have mentioned in other threads, should I try altering the sampling interval/oversampling in artisan, or something else? Using the heatsnob with different software with a different probe in my behmor I had smooth results. I think my behmor power cord had a ground pin though, huky power cord does not.

First of all, you've got a normal roast and probably tastes fine.

Try looking thru the Huky Forum Artisan set up screens for examples. The three second sampling interval although a bit long ends up being the default choice for a lot of us (I presume).

Once you've got that ironed out, next step is isolating "the culprit". Grounding is getting a lot of nods here, and I went out an got an 8' galvalnized grounding round, pounded it (pretty easy in Florida), ran a wire to the roaster.
