Placing an order, MET probe with stove top range?
« on: August 10, 2016, 06:46:01 PM »
Hello! I'm new to this forum and I'm considering placing an order for a Huky 500 T, solid drum. I can't decide whether or not to use my stove top (http://www.howards.com/cooking/cooktops/gas-cooktops/KCGS356ESS) or to purchase the standard propane burner from Mr. Li. If I use my stove top range, would you recommend purchasing the additional MET probe so I can measure heat more accurately? Or another option, I'm thinking about purchasing the propane stove and NOT purchasing the MET probe. I was reading through other threads and it didn't seem like many people use the MET probe unless they use an open flame source. Any guidance or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I'd order the MET probe and the stock stove from Mr. Li.

Using your range is much more difficult to repeat gas settings as opposed to using the stove with the gauge. Just my opinion.

I fully agree with Johnny. While it's possible to use a stovetop burner, the Huky is built to work with that IR burner. The IR burner is also powerful enough to race through full charges (500g) "too fast". Johnny brings up the most important thing which is the needle valve on the IR burner, which makes it easy to set (and repeat) a very precise heat. It's very cheap on gas too... :)
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

Thank you so much for your help! One of the things I am most excited about with a Huky is this community/ support behind the product. It's pretty incredible. I'm going to go ahead and order the MET probe and stock stove offered by Mr. Li. as suggested. Thanks again!
