Variable Speed Drum
« on: September 09, 2016, 07:23:34 PM »
Hi,
As anyone tried or thought of transforming/upgrading the fixed speed drumof a Huky to a variable speed drum? Say, have the higher speed motor people buy with the non perforated drum but somehow making it a variable speed. Maybe connect it to a dimmer or something. Not sure as I'm not electritian/electronician... it would be intresting to know.
It sounds like a good idea to me as you could play with drum speed vs load size?

I did some experiments with the 72rpm motor running it with a 18.5V transformer (readily available as they are the same as for some inkjet printers). That gave me 54 RPM. The benefit was a little bit more quiet motor too.
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

There was a thread a while back on how to make a variable motor control. Cost was about $10-15 for the parts.

I think the part is 7 or 8 dollars from China. Worked perfectly.

A DC motor controller is what you are looking for. The one previously posted within the forum is sold out on eBay. I am sure you can look around for the proper AMP and Voltage input required.

I'm the one who posted that. Continues to work fine. Was very inexpensive. Installed in an Altoids tin, which is kinda funky, but works. :)
