Variac amps
« on: October 18, 2016, 03:21:56 PM »
G'day from downunder  :)

Is there a minimum amperage required for a Variac?
I'm looking at a 2 Amp, rated power: 500 VA (fused), Input 240 VAC @50Hz, Output 0-260 VAC @50Hz.
Would it do the job?

Okay, here's how little I know about amps:

Since the Variac is going to control your fan, maybe it should have the same amps?

Ampere is the strength of an electrical current, according to Dr. Google, but i don't know if it needs to be the same as the fan's. If it does, could you check on your fan spec plate to see how many amps it has?

Yes, the fan pulls a fractional amount of amps.
