Mexican zongozotola 22
« on: January 16, 2017, 09:54:14 AM »
Hi all,

So I've been having a really hard time with this coffee.  It picks up speed once it has moved into FC.  I've tried many different ways to control it(slow it down) before hand with no such luck.

Any advice welcome,

Thank you

Are you saying that this particular bean behaves differently than all the others you have roasted to date?  That not until this one have you had trouble with the progression to 1C?

Can you post some roast data, the best would be an Artisan graph with the control (heat and air) data plotted too.
Some coffees do behave different, for whatever reason. I'm asking for a graph because it's often hard to change e.g. "only" the last part of the Maillard phase to fix that accelleration in FC. You may have to make that change earlier in the roast... Checking the roast data gives us the whole picture instead of just the problem.
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

Unfortunately I don't have a graph.  My computer stopped working and now I'm going off of the thermocouple that came with the huky.  This seems to be the only bean that I have had issues with it gaining speed during FC.  Also, doesn't hit FC until 400, where as all other beans typically are hitting FC around 385-390.  Ive tried adjusting my elements to make up for the difference, IE- slowing down my TP(turning gas off until 1:00), dropping gas at 340 degrees(when typically I'm not letting off the gas until 360-370).  Just roasted another batch 330g, same results.  So weird.

Anyone else ever have this issue?  I want to like this coffee, but just am not getting good results and i don't think it's the coffee, its the operator.  Just need a solution.

Thank you
