Charge temperature
« on: January 22, 2017, 07:36:13 AM »
Hey all,
I have been doing lots of reading regarding charge temperatures and weight but am not sure where to begin! There is so much conflicting information. I was hoping that someone has a recommendation for a good starting weight and charge temp. From there I will follow the roasting guidelines listed on the right side of the page.

My plan is to pick one style/region of bean and continually roast it in different ways until I master it.  At that point I will try something else.

The reason you are confused is that there is no consensus.  Everyone has a theory.  Given that you are using a solid drum and the fast motor, be sure to attend to information provided with those settings.

Whatever charge temperature you decide on, be sure to warm your HUKY  enough that the three TCs are all stable before you decide to charge.  A well warmed up HUKY is worth waiting for.

I'm guessing GregR's directions on roasting with a solid drum are still a good place to start (maybe even finish) your journey.

Charge weight is a bit less controversial, and the HUKY seems to be the easiest to guide through a roast at about 350gm.  TC placement is probably the biggest determining factor on what makes a good load IF you are relying on telemetry to make decisions.
