Hello everybody!
I've had my HUKY for a few weeks now, and I've had the chance to get a basic handle on achieving a somewhat decent roast. I first destroyed the last of a bag of washed Sumatra Lintong Aek Nauli by not having enough fan. When Scott Rao says "bile or tangy, smoky", he is not joking, that stuff was awful.
Now I'm roasting some washed Peru FT Organic San Isidro Sr. Montenegro (
https://www.sweetmarias.com/product/peru-fto-san-isidro-sr-montenegro-5318) and I've started hitting the balance between gas and exhaust fan. I'm roasting for filter brewing (V60, Aeropress, and French Press) - one day I'll spring for an espresso machine.
The first roast "#4" below (managed to fumble clicking buttons so it's missing the first ~10s of the roast) went a little faster than intended and the curves aren't as smooth as I'd like. The second roast "#5" went a little long, but I'm very happy with the curves. I won't share the graphs for roasts #1-#3, they're too shameful.
Both roasts are a little underdeveloped but came out great in cupping this morning. I think I'll go with a lower charge temperature next time so that I can go into FC with less momentum and stretch things out after FCs. I had aimed for 420F BT this time, but that seems a little high for a 300g charge.
