Phidgets SNAFU
« on: July 01, 2017, 11:10:48 AM »
If you are just now installing a Phidget to use with Artisan, you will find that the most current library (v22) is not going to work for you.  You will have to go and find and download the previous library (v21).  This is gonna trip a lot of people up, but as far as I can tell, the old library is available here:

Hello Susan,
it sounds strange and currently I don't understand it and did not see it somewhere else

Therefore some questions, hoping that you have more information so that I can get the point.
Is this only for specific sensors, e.g. 1048 ?
Is this about the Phidgets libraries which are pre-programmed as firmware?
Or are these libraries to be replaced in the Artisan software package ?

Is this only with new bought Phidgets
( I just ordered pressure sensors, they should be "stupid" parts (?) ),
or is it related to the Artisan version?

It is not clearly stated in what I read as to whether there is firmware that changes.  The coding for communicating from the device has been very significantly overhauled is what I read here:

My interchange with Marko on the subject of the new VINT Phidgets:

Susan,
those new Phidgets are not supported yet by Artisan. They were just released now and Phidget contacted me on this just yesterday. They will send some devices over to me, but I have no idea when I will find the time to add support for those. The situation is worse as they also changed the software API (for new and old devices) fundamentally such that I also have to rework the whole (large) implementation for the old phidgets.
Not sure if I can find time for this anytime soon, or at all.
Sorry,
Marko

Does this impact my use of the 1048 Phidget for example?

Yes, in a way. If you upgrade your Phidget driver to v22 Artisan will fail to talk to your 1048. You should keep v21 installed for now. The problem is more for new users that download and install the Phidget driver. They will get by default v22. The old version is quite well hidden on their pages now. I expect a lot of user support work here.

Bottom line as far as I can tell is DO NOT upgrade to v22.

Thanks for the heads up!  I should be getting my phidget 1048 in the mail soon and it's good to know.  I'll start with v21 until the issue is resolved.

Thanks again,
Michael

Hi Susan. I am in the stage of deciding between center 304 or phidget 1048. But also I read this post and I have some doubts now about going for the phidget. If I buy the phidget 1048 I will have troubles becouse I won't be able to link the new driver (V22) with artisan? Is there any alternative like installing v21 instead or this option is not available anymore? What do you recommend, start with center 304, go for the phidget anyway or having both? (Having both is possible? I undestand it is, right?).

I want to make sure I make the better option when I write to Mr. Li.

Thank you!

Thanks for the last posts.
Now, after a quick check on my notebook-Phidgets directory, I am convinced that we are referring to the libraries we can directly copy onto the harddisc
and not about the firmware on the Phidget - as I was worring for a while.

Every time my company replaces my laptop I get to re-install Artisan. You think I might get better at this  but no. I think  this time I almost blew out a temporal lobe.

Version 22 for the phidget just gave me "-1" readouts. Found the version 21 drivers and that solved the problem

Here is the link for the Windows version 21 drivers. You can pick what ever version of Windows you have and then the last one by date on the list. Got my temperature back. ;O)

Yes, this has been a problem for a few people.  It might be time to make a sticky with the link to the version 21 drivers.

I had an email from Marko this morning indicating that he has implemented Artisan to work with v22 and some of the Phidgets I/O devices and that capability will be available in the next version of Artisan.

No, I do not have a release date for the next version....

ISSUE:

PCP not recognizing the 1048 phidget & artsisan not reading correctly. I've installed the older version of phidgetv21, but still not working. Artisan reads (-1- bt, -1 et,). I've installed & reinstalled the phidgetv21 multiple times.

any suggestions? if addl pics are needed, please advise.

NOTE: Everything was working fine till a couple of days ago. Not sure what happen, i ran norton system scan as well as the performance scan. could this be the cause on why it is no longer working? what changed?

thanks,

Tony
