Solid or perforated
« on: March 12, 2015, 10:38:54 PM »
Hi all.

I think I have the rest of my order nailed down. I've read most I can find on this subject and I have to confess I'm none the wiser. One fairly prolific poster, Kfir, on another forum  seems to have plenty of experience with both and his opinions have changed a couple of times and don't seem particularly strong either way. The best I can come up with is that neither is superior and they're just different. So, pick one and go with it and then maybe try the other later. Does that seem reasonable? Anyone else tried both and have a strong opinion one way or the other? Thanks.

Your logic and conclusions appear to be spot on. My conclusion is it's a win-win.

Thanks for the reply. Can you explain the perforated drum with the sliding grate? It really looks to me like that allows a perforated drum to be transformed into what is effectively a solid drum with slightly more airflow? Buy both speed motors and you've got both bases covered. Yes? Or, buy the high speed and wire it via a dimmer/variac and make it variable. Too complicated?  Hmmm...

If you look at the picture of the sliding grate in the gallery, you will probably be able to see that it does not convert a perforated to a solid drum.

At least one member here has his motor on a variable controller.
Several of us have both motors and both drums.
You are in good company :-))))
