I'm guessing that you do not have a grate installed?
So, is there a hole where the grate lever would go if you did have a grate?

I'm just wondering what the issues would be if/as/when you wanted to change from a solid to a perforated drum since the perforated drum configuration does include the grate.

I am installing a solid drum in this frame and trying to decide whether to entirely remove the grate or not, but mostly I'm just curious....

No grate on mine. Don't know about the hole for the lever- I've never seen a Huky with the grate so I don't know where it would be. I will say there are appears to be no extra/unused holes in my roaster.

Here's where the lever is.

There's a hole there- covered with a cylindrical chrome piece. Never noticed it before.

That makes me think that it is a whole lot easier to adapt a HUKY which comes with a perforated drum to a solid than the other way around.

Great to know.  I'd ordered my 500T with the solid installed, but ordered the perfed drum as an extra.  Still haven't received confirmation of shipment yet.  One would assume that the sliding grate would be included, but I just sent an email to Mr. Li to confirm.  I'll post the response when I get it.

Thanks, this may have saved some hassles down the road when I try out the perfed drum.

Mr. Li responded that the sliding grate will be installed.

Whether that would've been the case anyway, or only because I emailed him about it, I don't know.  But I think Susan's right that it's probably easier to adapt a Huky with a perforated drum to a solid drum because the sliding grate would already be in place.

Upshot being, if you're ordering a Huky and getting both drums, consider ordering it with the perforated drum installed so there's no possibility that the sliding grate would be omitted.

Ah, okay, I missed this before.

If that's the case then there is no issue adding adding the grate when changing to the perforated drum.  It was the absence of a holefor the grate control that made me think it could be problematic.   Installing the grate itself is no problem at all.  It just slips on a pair of rods that run from front to back.

Thanks for that.
