First 5 Roasts
« on: May 31, 2015, 08:40:33 PM »
Hey all - I'm 2 sessions and 5 roasts in!

It took some time, but for the second session I got a way better handle on how to manage my fire.

For my first session I was charging 380g with no real issues. When it came time to cup the coffees, I had realized that 380g is a lot to try to drink when you're learning.

For the second session I brought the charge dose down to 265 (accounting for a 14-15% loss, I'm hitting 225g/8oz roasted weight).

I'd share my roast logs, but I'm having some Thermometer to Linux issues.. So it's manual data-logging for me (for now)!

I'll post my cupping results after these here beans have taken a good rest.

Sweet dude.

I ended up giving away a good proportion of my first roasts to a couple of friends. This was under the strict condition that the roasts will only get better as I get more experience!

the very first roast, which tasted like old socks / fireworks and workshop grease ended up in the compost.

Look forward to seeing more grams and hear how it all cupped.

For the beans that don't get used within ten days or so-- into freezer in sealed bags:

Or in mason jars if you have room.  The vac sealed bags are easier to store, but if you have mason jars on hand they work too, even if you don't vac seal them.
