Cleaning the diversion pipe
« on: June 07, 2015, 11:57:43 AM »
Wow!
After reading about the clogs/problems with the diversion pipe I decided to give it a deep clean with cafiza; 2tb to a quart. Still needs a little work; looking at some brushes on Amazon.

I'd say it's about 90% clean letting the Cafiza soak for a little while, bottle brush and green pad. Cleaning the bends is an issue, a different brush or method would help.

Do we really need a damper on the diversion pipe?  If your ordering a new machine why not just leave the pipe clean; so it's easier to clean later?  8)

I use both of those dampers while I am roasting.

The top one to check on the smell of my roast, the one on the way to my fan collecting chaff to control how much suction I use and it seems to help a little with temp. I adjust the flame on the burner for temp control more than using that damper though.

Oh I see, makes sense with the HukyT. I was thinking of the standard diversion pipe having no damper; for ease of cleaning. The damper appears to be permanent, not removable.

My HukyT is in the mail, so I don't have one in front of me yet. I've been reading a lot about the need to clean out the pipe, and I was wondering if something like this might work with the nylon bristles cut down in size a little:

Or maybe this one (The big brush is 1.75")

I agree, I'd beat the crap out of mine with a hammer and the damper is still there, just bent a little now haha

I still think it's a good idea to special order without the damper; providing one is using air speed control.
