Just got my Huky 500T! and..................
« on: June 17, 2015, 01:06:47 PM »
Hey everyone.

Just got my Huky 500T and it looks pretty super shiny and slick. Was a bit surprised how small it looked compared to the pictures ive seen online lol... Also all my coworkers were super interested in it (engineers) due to it being a mechanical object.

anyways turned it on and was wondering... does this all sound normal? I didnt take a part anything

BUt yea fired it up and was about to start a roast and found out the temp readings are all off on the phidget... after some research its possible that the connectors i made created some issue with the readings so now im going to directly wire the TC up to the 1048..

Your drum is rubbing and you might need to add a shim.
If you email Mr. Li he can confirm this.
There are pictures somewhere in the gallery.
Here:  https://www.hukyforum.com/index.php?action=gallery;cat=5

I had issues with the Phidget when I tried using the mini connectors from Phidget.
Everything got sorted as soon as I direct wired the T/Cs into the Phidget.

Oh dang, mine makes that same noise. I just figured it was normal.

It looks like I'll be putting in a shim too. Bummer deal.

i might just disregard the noise n start roasting a bit before i decide to fix the problem... seeing that a lot of people have it. So far its not really binding anything yet so.....

FWIW I had the same sound when I first turned on the roaster, and it went away after a roast or 2. I don't think I did anything to correct it.

Does not seem that bad, just needs to wear in and settle. Mine makes a slight noise also, but not as frequently. Flip over the roaster and move the drum back and forth with your hand. Or you can try twisting the handle while it is running. Also, perhaps lightly loosening front and back plate nuts might release some pressure.

Okay, well I toned down my original response so it didn't sound as if I knew exactly and for sure how severe the issue is/was.

Some bumping and grinding may certainly just take settling out.  If it doesn't, however, I think it would be wise to investigate.  If it is working properly it will not be making that noise.  If it goes away good.

Im hoping it will grind itself free lol....

Once i have the time ill pop this baby open and inspect. So far i was able to roast 2 1/2 pound batches to get some repetition in. House is still here.... so far so "good"

I asked Mr. Li about the noise. This is a copy and paste of his reply to me....

Now the reason of noise, it should be the axis of the motor and the drum has some deviation. But not very serious.

The Solutions:

1.Loosen the three screws of the motor set.
2.Open the motor switch, (in motor operation) using 5.5mm hexagonal socket wrench(attach) to loosen the set screw of the motor (but not removed)
3.Continue to operate for a while, the noise should be reduced,
4.Re-tighten the screws.

Good advice.  I had a similar noise with mine that went away after my first few roasts.

Another thing to look at would be one of the handle bolts rubbing against the drum. I took a hacksaw  to it. Solved the problem
