I posted here some time ago that I use a shop vac hose on my exhaust fan with the bowl because it fit perfectly the 2 1/2" diameter. Well, I went in the basement yesterday to put some new beans in storage and noticed the hose had broken right at the connection. I unwrapped tape that I'd used to make sure the hose didn't slip out and discovered the inside of the hose had collapsed from the heat. I've done about 100 roasts. No telling how long it's been at least partially collapsed. Probably that explains why I have been getting so much chaff build up in my J pipe with certain beans. Also, I thought I noticed a certain weak response to air flow changes. So, the story is this: I got some good use out of a shop vac hose. But, it's subject to failure from the heat. I won't be replacing it with another shop vac hose. I'll take the opportunity to clean the fan and look for another solution. I'm tempted to just put a fan in the door and put up with some smoke.
