Removing The Huky Face Plate-Best Method

Many of our members have switched drums or cleaned bearings. What's your experience, or "best method" for removing and replacing the Huky faceplate?

Hank, are you suggesting it's possible to change the drum by just removing the face plate? I took the whole darn thing apart. If there's an easier way I'm hoping to learn it.
I'm 70 years old so I grew up changing headlights in my car by removing the headlight from the front of the car. So, I don't remember what car I learnred this on, but I had a headlight that needed replaced and I had almost the whole front of the car removed before I discovered all I had to do was get under the hood and replace from the inside.
Am I doing the same thing with the Huky? Making it harder than it needs to be?
Dick

Start with taking away the ten screws and remove the top plate altogether. It's much easier to see what you're doing, especially when you're to the roaster back together.
Then you can see all the nuts that you need to remove from the front plate. Do remember to take away the center screw from the middle shaft on the drum. It should be as easy as that.
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

Agree - take the cover off first, then work on either the front or the back dependent on what you are working on.  If it's a motor swap remove the back plate - if it's a drum change or bearing cleaning remove the front face.

I've never taken mine apart, but though it would be useful to get some insight on major maintenance from the members.

I had read drum removal only required removing the faceplate and was wondering if removing the front cap head screws on the shroud/cover was enough.

Any problems replacing the top cover?

Now, there's really nothing much to it. The Huky is extremely simple to pick apart and put together. (Except maybe to get to the inner screws/nuts when changing motors inside the motor housing. That is why it's recommended to get an extra housing if you intend to switch setups.)
I will dismantle and rebuild my machine at some point in the next week or two. (My order for a T-conversion kit and a perf. drum has shipped. :) :) ) I will try to be diciplined with that and make a decent pictorial for everyone to "enjoy".  ;D
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

Somebody a while back made the best suggestion ever and that is to buy a better set of tools before taking it apart.

I found that the short and not very strong allen wrenches that came with the HUKY were not powerful enough to use on the very soft headed screws that attach the shroud/cover and that I ended up with stripped heads and screws locked not quite tightened.

If I had to do it over I'd start with better tools.
