Yeah, I think they're exactly a year apart, give or take a week. That is pretty close to one Huky produced and shipped every day. (Well, including conversion kits then...) Minus some well earned holidays. :)
Now, if I could just figure out how to get that front bearing out...

Well shoot me, but isn't there a small driver or wrench that came with the HUKY that unscrews that screw in the middle?

I'd be interested in that too.  At some point I'll have to do a thorough cleaning.

In fact, I'd love to hear how the whole process of switching to the perforated drum goes.

Have fun!

I'm just about to do my first test, Huky is heating up...
About the bearing. The small screw wasn't the problem, that one holds the drum to the front plate and holds the bearing in place once the roaster gets hot. I lit up a candle to warm up the mounting a little bit and then it budged. You have to gently pry it out from the inside with (preferably) something which is slightly larger than the inner diameter, but not the diameter of the inner part of the mounting ring.
In short, apply some heat.

Well, 4 roasts later. :) I deliberatly burned 500g of sweep beans and had them spinning in the slowly cooling drum for half an hour or so.
Then three "sharp" roasts. I.e. roasts that I want to taste. I must say that a full year of roasting with the Huky (with a solid drum) have paid off. I do have to adjust my charge temps quite a bit. The TC's gives somewhat different values/curves, but that was expected too. The perf. drum holds a bit less heat than the solid (what a surprise :) ), so even though I charged quite a bit higher, my TP came in lower (85C/185F) than what I aimed for (95C/205F). As I usually try to land at DE on 5.00, it means I'm at pretty high speed then. Consequently the Maillard phase it too quick at the moment (FCs at 8.00 or even sooner...) for my taste. But let's see tomorrow or so. The results may be thin... or excellent. The roasts looks really good though. I'm a happy camper. :)

What about now? :) Both profiles are with 250-300g loads. Something strange with the second (Zege, a nice Ethiopian), as 1Cs didn't start until 204C (about 5C/10F late).

Nice.
Question:  Does your MET behave differently with the perforated drum than it did with the solid?

Seems to me that our perforated set up allows MET to rise and fall much more than the solid configuration does.

Oh yes, with the solid drum, the MET stays above the other curves all the time. Here it dives below the other ones mid-roast. I didn't pay much (any) attention to it during the roast, just checked it before to make sure that the roaster was decently and evenly heated.

Excellent.

I've been asked more than once (by users of the solid drum) if there is something wrong with my thermometry, so I'm glad that you have corroborated that my swooping MET is directly related to the perforated drum configuration.

Facts are very slow to accumulate :-)

Noob here.  Hope this question is not a typical noob one.  Edtbjon and Susan back and forth on an exciting thread today:

Edtbjon:  "Oh yes, with the solid drum, the MET stays above the other curves all the time. Here it dives below the other ones mid-roast."
So with the perforated the MET dives below ET and BT mid-roast.  Please speculate why.  And therefore is MET probe on perforated config much less valuable than on the solid?  i. e., is the data displayed by the MET uninterpretable in this circumstance?

It is no less useful.  MET is just different in a perforated drum than in a solid drum.  This graphic should explain it better than I can

Yes, I recon I'll figure it out eventually. For now, I accept it's different and once I've learnt the basics I'll go into the nitty-gritty. Right now there's a lot of holes to deal with, apart from the (new to me) grate. :)
