Fuel usage on the Huky
« on: January 16, 2015, 08:03:20 AM »
Hey guys, I have my Huky on its way from Mr. Li. I was just getting my ducks in a row so I'm ready to roast when it gets here. Are most of you using a normal 20lb grill propane tank? There are the smaller 5lb tanks I believe....but I don't want to have to change tanks non-stop. How much fuel do these little buggers use?

Thanks!

I use the normal grill tank.. It's extremely efficient as I'm still on my first tank.. Quite a bit of roasts

Cool! Good to know. I'm thinking of making a permanent "roasting cart" with everything hard mounted so I have a more orderly roasting setup. I might go with the smaller tank size so its a little more portable and have a couple on hand.

Thanks for the info! I'll post a pic of my setup once everything gets here.

I don't know how accurate it is, but I've got a gauge on the tank that should warn me if/as/when I have roasted enough to run it low.  I know this picture is really of the regulator, but you can see the gauge there to the right.

Ahh nice! I'll have to find something like that. Looks pretty useful!

You are right, the reviews look awful.

What if you just put a cheap scale under it?

Wouldn't that tell you when it was almost empty?

Probably fairly accurately, yeah. If I just weight an empty cylinder, and then weigh it when its full, that should give me a pretty good idea.

Here's some  information on figuring out the weights.

Hmm.....might end up being more work than its worth huh? Ha ha.

Thanks for the link though! I wonder if there is another gauge that's similar to yours, yet is a little more accurate.
