I used the grill plate for a template and cut a cardboard gasket.

Well...I believe I will do this mod or hanks and do a quick test with the anemometer.

Do these mods just go on the fan, and you place the normal grill & bowl thing as usual over the fan. Right?

This seems like a great & easy idea. I'll probably end up doing it very soon. It would be very interesting to do a before & after with the Anemometer to see the difference it makes. Maybe I should get on that list...

I sent Hankua a PM with this exact question.  I didn't realize it wasn't clear to others as well!  Thanks for asking.

Looks like a good idea.  I used a bead of silicone caulking but the gaskets would be cleaner. Why are the grills needed?  Finger protection? I removed mine and am livin' dangerously.

I removed the grill before ever I ever used it.  I cut out multiple gaskets from cereal boxes (Yes, Frankenberry..  It was Halloween.) I put one between the fan and the bowl, one between the chrome ring and the fan, and one on the inside of the metal tray so that the air would be pulled more from the center of the funnel which I thought would pull more from the exhaust pipe, and  not from around the funnel.

I also took a stove hood filter apart and used the metal filter part fitted inside the funnel in the tray to help keep the fan a bit cleaner.  Seems to be working ok

This came up earlier, but not in a  fan mod specific thread. Now it will be searchable on the forum. I was having the same problem as Keno, with roasting smoke getting pushed out the bowl assembly. I'm only using one gasket per fan assembly (fan base, gasket, wire cage, trim ring).

I found the chaff screen to fan fit pretty good and helps to center the bits (stove, roaster, J-pipe, fan bowl, and exhaust.) A bit of jiggling around to get all the parts to settle in place; that connection is stock.

The bowl to fan connection seemed decent, mine is stock as well. One thing for sure, my exhaust bowl had never been cleaned and was seriously caked up. Not a bad idea to include the fan bowl in the deep clean regime.

I just did a mod with sandwiched cardboard rings with no guard.  I tested with anemometer and found the only difference was from 100% of power down to 95% of max power.  Lower than that it didn't make any appreciable difference so I question if it is worth the trouble.

I found that it also helped with smoke ecscaping which is good if your roasting indoors

In my case I believe the escaping smoke is really beneficial to my garage. It's always smelling so damn good!!

I have received a complaint but I have so far quietly ignored it and considered it nonsense.
