Please show me how you raise the vent bowl
« on: January 26, 2015, 06:38:49 PM »
This vent bowl is giving me a hard time.

It seems to me that the legs are too short and/or the vent should be facing upwards, but obviously everyone else is figuring it out.

But how?

The only thing I've been able to fashion so far is/are three styrofoam squares that I put under each leg, but honestly it is ugly and not very stable, so....What are you doing to deal with this?

I remember you commenting this solution. Not pretty, but it works and it was very quick to assemble: "Nice legs". 3 strips of plywood and a few "cat stranglers". :) (Don't worry, I really like cats...)
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

I did, didn't I....and then I plumb forgot.
Perfect.
My cat calls them Zip Ties.

And I CAN do that....
Thank you for reminding me.

Plywood squares
...which was (hmm... and still is) a temporary quickie solution. But I'm eagerly waiting for that new exhaust model which you don't have to move and reassemble at the start of each separate roast. That one is connected via a flexibe duct.
Not that I feel like spreading out the various apparatus (roaster/fan/computer/...) as my roasting space is a bit tight. But I do think that the exhaust fan/bowl assembly is crammed a bit too snug to the roaster. (Even too tight with the current model of the exhaust, but that is most definitely a design or rather construction flaw.)
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

This subject came up at a discussion on another forum but the gist of it is that Mr Li is not going to develop that dual exhaust pipe that I think you are referring to because it makes the whole apparatus unstable.   Seems what he said was that he couldn't extend the J pipe significantly without jeopardizing the stability.  I am guessing that the dual pipe might still be in the works, but again lengthening isn't always going to be possible.

That comment makes me understand better the constraints of the design.  Longer might be nice, but if you look at the video of Mr Li using the HUKY you will see that it balances perfectly when he swings it out of the way to remove the chaff before dumping the beans:

Note also that the roast takes 15 minutes  :o

But, his email sent to me last month says otherwise. (sent on 12/20/14)

Hi Johnny,

I'm now testing the new version as the attached picture,
I would recommend to wait for the new version instead of buying the extended pipe now,
the new version would be much better.
Please wait 1~2 month.

Best regards,

Kuanho Li

There are no people that aren't members at GCBC...just put links.  ;)

Meanwhile this vent exit seriously has to be the worst part of the design of this machine. It's almost like Mr Li let somebody else design that part.

I couldn't agree more. I'd like to get to a standard pipe size too, something obtanium from the states wouldn't hurt.

If all we need is a way to couple from his pipe size to something obtainable stateside, I would think that it'd be possible to find a machine shop or a private individual with the wherewithal to fabricate a number of converters--IF (and that's a pretty massive if) nothing can be found.

Is this the new 'tee' design people are talking about?

That 1.5" pipe out the back would run down to the tray with the fan to control air flow?
