Title: Clean your exhaust fan with isopropyl !
Post by: Mayowarlord on June 19, 2017, 08:24:55 AM
Hey all,
I was reading the available materiel here about cleaning the exhaust system, and several products got mentioned for cleaning. It turns out that you really only need one. I had around 100lbs of coffee through the Huky before attempting to clean the fan, and a scratch pad soaked in rubbing alcohol did the trick. No need to worry about getting electric components wet, or residual chemicals.

Cheers!

A tooth brush does it for me, but I will try it with alcohol. Thanks!

You can even buy 99% isopropyl
(what's in your medicine chest is probably 70%)

Nice tip!

Recently purchased a smoker and discovered that isopropyl works really well for cleaning the glass window on that as well. I should have put two and two together that that might work well for the Huky fan and other exhaust components too. :)

There was quite a bit of residue built up in my Huky's air pipes. The trier and damper leaf (if that's what its called) were black with residue that seemed almost painted on it was so hard (I bought mine used and it saw a LOT of roasts).

I used a combination of 99% isopropyl, (approx 350ml) Simply Green concentrate (approx 250 ml) and a couple liters of water (that's about 8 cups I think. Enough to just cover the pipes in the bottom of a pail)  I soaked them over night and most of the gunk came right off. What didn't came out with a bit of light scrubbing. The hardened, black soot came off in chunks with a tiny bit of scraping with a stiff brush.

Of course some household items aren't safe to mix, but I couldn't find anything online saying it wasn't safe to mix Simply Green with isopropyl, so I figured it would be ok. It was smelly, but the fumes didn't seem caustic, or anything.

I'll stand by a strong mixture of Oxyclean and hot water to clean all of the Huky chrome pieces.  It's fast and does a great job making the pieces look next to new.   :)
