Title: Hello from N. California/Bay Area
Post by: threechrome on May 15, 2017, 06:19:34 PM
Hello everyone! :) I've been roasting with a West Bend Crazy Air Popper for 3 months and want to learn how to do control a roast.  I generally drink darker roast/ espresso drinks but I plan on attending some cuppings as I don't work in the coffee industry and want to expand my palate. I have been reading through the forum so that I know what to order and to try to understand how the Huky works. I don't have any other experience besides the air popper. I am still trying to find out if the system comes with an exhaust bowl? And why I see some people get "two exhaust bowls"
And.... are exhaust hood and exhaust bowl the same thing?
I look forward to learning and sharing my experiences of learning how to roast and learning more about coffee in general. Thank you for having this site.
Peace

Welcome.

Yes, the vent bowl/exhaust bowl/exhaust hood are all the same thing, and no, it is not included with the HUKY.   Why two?  Someone else will have to answer that, most owners seem to use just one.
If you haven't seen it, here is the most current pricing information that we have:

Unless some people just want an extra exhaust bowl I'm not sure why you would need two.  Extra sieve/tray/fan for cooling would be a good choice.

The exhaust bowl is just some pieces of stainless steel welded together. You do absolutely need one so that you can direct all the smoke to where you want. But a second one... No, it's very sturdy and it will not break. (If it breaks, it can be fixed by anyone handy with metalwork nearby.)
The only reason for having a second one would maybe be to be able direct the very small amount of fumes and possibly smoke that comes from the beans while cooling. I think that is overkill, as there is probably much more fumes and smoke leaking from the roaster while roasting. Unless you roast in a very sensitive environment and want to get rid of every trace of you having roasted there, there's no need for an extra bowl.

Thank You everyone for answering my questions.  Will definitely save me money getting only one bowl. I will get two trays, and thanks for explaing bowl use as I will not be roasting in very sensitive environment.  I will update once I contact Mr. Li and get my list together.  Looking forward to my next steps.  ::)

Just opened Huky package.  1285
I was lucky and got the solid drum pre-installed as I requested .
I noticed on order sticker that Mr. Li offers ducting which I didn't take advantage of but future owners may want to inquire about. I plan to set up this week as I learn how the system works.
