Title: Bodhi Leaf: Mexico Organic Santo Domingo La Cascada
Post by: . on April 25, 2017, 01:17:30 PM
Bodhi Leaf is offering their Mexico Organic Santo Domingo La Cascada for $2.95lb now thru Friday. Use coupon code SANTODOMINGO at checkout. Has anyone tried this bean? I'm thinking of grabbing five or ten pounds.

Saw that and grabbed some as well.

Whenever I pick up my green beans, I always pick the roaster/head roasters' brain a little bit. They always graciously offer me help if I ever get stuck roasting a bean.

If anybody is interested, we can do a Huky group roasting activity. Blind cup all the submissions, maybe I can get a Q grader from Bodhi Leaf to cup/taste the best coffee out of the bunch, and have him grade it.

It would also be nice for the participants to be able to get a chance to taste what that coffee is like so roasting multiple pounds may be required.

I picked up some too.

The recent sale Colombian Alerio is worth the non-sale price, so I picked up a bit of that too.  And the El Sal bourbon sounded too good to pass up.

I'll be roasting these on Monday. Spoke to the head roaster at Bodhi for advice on how to roast these, he said he roasts mexican coffee similar to how he roasts other central americans.  I brought up that mexican coffees usually take off on me during first crack, he said he didnt have that issue with these beans.

Will roast a pound and would love to share and get some feedback.

Just roasted a couple 350g batches today, my cupping procedure isn't very sophisticated, a v60 pour over and pulling shots on an espresso machine. I charged both batches at around 360F but for some reason, the second batch's drying time took about 15 seconds longer which got me out of rhythm the rest of the roast. I was trying to shoot for about 16% development time for the 1st batch and about 18% development for the second batch which I got close to.

I will report my tasting notes after a few days.

awesome, looks good. I see the C and FC at 420 and 425, are those your usual numbers for the roast levels for centrals?

City+ (416-420) and Full City (421-425), I pay attention more to time than final temp though.

What times are you looking for in general if you don't mind me asking?  Haven't read any roasting books but I guess I really should.

I was on vacation during this sale and ended up missing out on it. Once I got home I decided to grab a box of Guatemalan Crown Jewels from Royal Coffee. That should keep me busy for a while.

Yummm.....Let us know how you like it.
Prolly should have started a new thread, but do so, Robert, if this bean is worth talkin' about.

Nah.  Don't do that here.
Selling beans on the HUKY forum is definitely not okay.
Sorry but that's always been the case.

Got it, I'll offer them up somewhere else. Not a big deal, it's only a few pounds. If nothing else I'll keep them for myself.  :D

Did a couple of pour overs finally.

21.5 grams coffee and 362 grams of water.

Profile A had some kind of juicy citrus note that I could not quite identify along with some chocolate notes, it also started tasting green as the coffee cooled. I prefer Profile B with this one, the citrus note became more of a cherry with dark chocolate notes and some cola flavor in there :o. Will try a slower drying and maillard time and see what happens.

I just did a only-one-adjustment roast with this Chiapas that arrived yesterday.
Hank told me when I started roasting to find the simplest route to success.  I'm still working on it....

currently using solid drum, by the way.

Has anyone else ordered green beans from Copan in Houston. The prices are pretty good for 25lb orders with free shipping. I like the Brazil floriday and the sumatra greens.

I get to play too.

This is a fairly standard profile for me trying for peak of flavor roast, for espresso; Dev ratio over 23% and drop south of 216 C.

currently using perforated drum, by the way.

I have not.  Thanks for the tip.

Looks like the consensus is a darker roast for this bean. I've tried it as espresso as well and it is very good.

This is a similar profile to a roast I did a few days ago. I think I've settled in on this one, delicious and works very well with milk.
