Has anybody modified their Huky to run on 240V from 120V?
« on: March 10, 2016, 05:58:22 AM »
We'll be moving to the UK in a year or so and I'm concerned about getting my Huky working over there.  I guess it would be the AC fans that might present a problem.  Does Mr. Li provide different hardware for Europe?

Hey man.. he supplys AC adapters & you will need your own adapter plugs. No hassle using the Huky in the UK.

You can always get a step up transformer. I dont know how much watts the fan uses but I dont think its that much. I believe they use a type f plug over there so you may need an adapter too, unless you get those US to Europe step up transformers then you should be ok.

Good to know.  One more thing I don't need to worry about.  Many thanks.

I think I might go with suggestion of Tony240610 and buy an AC adapter from Mr. Li.  I'm a bit leery of step up transformers cause I think there's more to it than just voltage although I'm not sure what Mr. Li's adapters do.

I am about to send my order in.  I am in Malaysia and we are running on 220-240v. Do I need to specify this to Mr Li or do I need to purchase a transformer ???

Mr. Li will have the answer to this question.

I know of a friend here in Sweden who bought a used Huky from the US. The fans were of course 120V versions, which made him fry at least one of the fans on his first roast.
So, you will need either an adapter (240V to 120V) to take care of all electrics for the Huky, or get 240V fans and a 240V AC to 24V DC for the motor. I'm pretty sure that you'll find an adapter is a more useable choice. (This is quite a common problem with europeans e.g buying american made (and american sold) old guitar tube amps which have 120V transformers. So finding such an adapter shouldn't be too hard.)
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

@ellboss : normally mr Li will ask, but anyway you should specify that you are running on 240V.

@thusband : agree with edtbjon ! I'm in france, with 240, and for the motor it's just a different AC adapter sent by Mr Li, but the fans are différent ones.

I'd worry a bit about the adapters and the fan, because the adapters used not to do hertz correction when I lived in europe.  A much bigger issue than the voltage.

If you had a DC fan this shouldn't be an issue.

Good note from Charlesaf3.

So you could find a DC adapter 230V/24V for the motor (from Mr Li or elsewhere) and use a variac for the fan's. But be sure to not go further than 120V !!! :p

Or you sell your fans in the US to huky's users, and get new 240V fan and the DC adapter from Mr Li.

Or you find 240V fans in UK

Or...

well, you have a lot of solution, choose the best !
