Artisan Phidget help please
« on: March 13, 2016, 02:57:36 PM »
I have the Phidget 1048 hooked up with the bare thermocouple wires directly screwed into the Phidget.  The temperatures all read 50 on Artisan.  When I turn Artisan off and use the Phidget control panel the temperatures read fine directly from the Phidget.  According to the Phidget the temperatures are all roughly 71 degrees F.   But Artisan is showing them about 20 degrees too low.  Is there something in Artisan I need to set?  I set up the Phidget according to the excellent documentation provided here.  I did a test and touched one of the thermocouples and it went up to what I assumed was the right temperature.  When I turned Artisan off and looked at the phidget temperature it matched, but when I closed the phidget control panel (the control panel and Artisan won't work at the same time) The temperatures in Artisan go back to the 50s.  Is this expected behavior?

Thanks!
Jon

Did you use this to set up your Phidget?

http://www.phidgets.com/docs/OS_-_Windows

This is a bit of a stab in the dark, but I think I remember that you cannot have the Phidget Control Panel and Artisan both 'open'.    How this applies and where I gathered that information from ?  Sorry....but it's maybe worth some research on your part.

And yes, I split this off from the TC4 conversation hoping it would get more traction.

Thanks for splitting this off.  Yes, that's what I used to set up the Phidget.  I also found that the Phidget window and Artisan won't work at the same time.  So I have been switching back and forth.  I think my Phidget is working fine.   The Phidget control panel seems fine, and is reporting the right temperatures.  It's just Artisan that I'm having a problem with.  When I move everything to my Raspbery Pi it seems the readings are fine.  Looks like I'll be roasting using the Raspberry  once I transfer my settings over.

So how about a picture of the Config > Device > ET/BT page and the Config > Device > Extra Devices page ?

Got it!

So on the Raspberry Pi the temperatures were right, until I uploded my settings from my Windows machine, once I loaded those settings the temperatures went off on the Raspberry Pi as well.  So it had to be my settings.

I opened the settings you uploaded some time ago and compared and found the problem with my settings.  Under Config --> Device --> Phidgets tab the Async buttons were selected.  After I unselected them my temperatures are correct.  I must have missed that step when converting from TC4 to Phidgets.

I attached 2 pictures, the top one has the Async selected.  In case anyone sees this problem later, that is wrong.  The bottom picture is correct.

Wonder what other settings I have off...

Thanks!!!

Here is my Extra Devices.  I have a 4th type K probe that I'll be using for ambient (yes I know the Phidget has ambient), but also I will use that to check my bean cooling temperatures.

Thanks again for your help with this.

It's more fun than doing a crossword puzzle  ;D

Okay, the Phidget is going to record your ambient all its byself, so I'd remove that line 5 entry.  Not because there is anything wrong with it, but just because it isn't clear that there isn't either.
