Hello from Columbus Ohio!
« on: March 14, 2017, 10:54:51 AM »
Hey there,
I have been roasting in an SR500 since October, and got enough posative feedback to consider trying a small business operation. I ordered a Huky (500T solid drum, propane IR burner, extra sieve /fan/funnel, three digital probes) on 2/27. Mr. Li had my roaster shipped out by the 6th (THANKS!). It arrived in Chicago on the 8th where it has sat in customs ever since.... In the meantime, I have received my variac and phidget and the 33lbs of Burundi Bukeye Nyarucamo I ordered from Crop to cup.

My plan is to launch a little cottage industry roasting business in my basement. Ohio is very liberal and I am able to sell to anyone within the state directly without licencing or inspection, and to licensed food producers/sellers for retail.

I saw the Huky as a way to see if this could work at all, that would leave me with a useful way to develop profiles in smaller batches, when I move up to a more substantial operation.

In any case, I just wanted to say hello! I have been reading deep into the backlog on this forum, and probably owe each and every one of you a thanks, for the information you have helped compile here. I can't wait to join in the conversation as soon as customs give me my roaster !

-Steve

I was hoping since it's not a peak shipping season that things would be quick, but I'll try to practice patience if it comes to that.

I'd be interested in meeting up some time, perhaps after I've had a chance to nearly burn my house down with my new toy :)

Welcome aboard!

Huky is perfect for learning the ropes, and has great resale value!

In the event you upgrade I'd skip over the 1K and get something that can roast #5 finished coffee.
