Roasting setup and my modifications
« on: January 08, 2015, 05:26:39 PM »
I have a nice travertine table on the porch, so I don't have to worry about venting considerations.

I am using Artisan 0.9 hooked to my PC.

My Thermocouple meter

I have verified that this 4-probe Meter works with Artisan. It's branded as General Tools DT309DL (same as the Omega HH309, Center 309 and other rebranded devices). Only difference is the price!!!

Model number is DT309DL

Cost was $199 (cheaper than 2 Amprobes TMD-56 devices)

To connect to the PC, I got a simple USB to RS-232 adapter on Amazon.

I am running Windows 8 64-bit.

Pressure Gauge Mod

The pressure gauge for Mr. Li's standard IR stove went out on me after 1 use. He's kindly sending me a replacement.

I did obtain this gauge from Dwyer instruments. The readout is larger and faces forward towards the needle valve. This might work out better in actual use.

The mounting threads are just slightly different. (I think one is tapered, the other is not). I did use some teflon tape and partially thread it, until I met some resistance with the threads). It's enough to seal and read the pressure correctly without messing up the threads on the stove. In other words, completely reversible.

Anyways, the gauge face is significantly larger and I just tested it out and it reads correctly.

It's the LPG4-D8122N from here...

I'm thinking the gauge that measures up to 3.75 KPa would be sufficient as well.

Fan Control

Per some advice on HomeBarisa, I purchased this Chinese VARIAC knock-off  Works great!

I think that is the same gauge I have coming, and if so I'm glad to know ahead of time that there is some mismatch in the threading.  I'm guessing you tested it with soapy water to make sure it doesn't leak???   The idea of leaking gas gives me hives.

Also:  I bought some of the yellow Teflon tape that I think is made especially for gas fittings....The labeling says:  "for use on threaded joints of metal pipe....propane, butane...natural gas...a minimum of three full wraps on pipe up to 1 inch..."

Yes, I did the soapy water trick.  With enough teflon (about 5 wrap), it seats firmly and no leaks)
