Inside the drum [video]
« on: December 01, 2015, 05:22:29 PM »
I purchased this probe to replace my BT probe. Turns out it's a bit long, despite being the "same" dimensions as Kuanho's, and would get smacked around by the drum's blades.

So what is one to do? Add a nut to the outside to lock the probe in place where it does not get smacked. I thought this would be a nice opportunity to do a slow-motion of the inside.

Attached is a photo of what I'm talking about with the second nut.

Sorry, I must have missed something, why would you want to replace the probe that came with the roaster?

Long-story short: Before, when there were very few resources for Huky users, and I was getting crazy readings from both Artisan and my Amprobe TMD-56, I tried replacing the BT probe with another one. That didn't change anything, and I just now got around to switching it back out with a braided one.

I like it, David. Thank you for posting this.

Makes me wonder if that might still be too far into the system (ie. close to the hot metal of the blades and drum axle.) Looks like the blades begin to angle in as you get closer to the faceplate. Maybe a middle ground between where the blade starts reducing and the faceplate? I try to imagine the standard airflow between the perforated back wall of the drum and the small exhaust tube on the upper center of the faceplate. My thinking is that it would provide a more accurate BT if the probe was not in-line with this flow. Intake and exhaust temps have there own value, but it makes little sense to dilute the BT reading with their input.

My preference would be to have the BT probe a bit lower on the faceplace, but I have neither the skill nor the nerve to modify.

My worries as well. I've since ordered one from Kuanho. :)
