Error: could not convert string to float
« on: November 08, 2016, 07:45:14 AM »
Hey! Since I started with artisan Ive had nothing but problems unfortunately. Artisan has worked as it shoud on two-three occasions but that's it. Now I'm getting a weird error which I can't find the solution for on google. I've followed all steps for downloading the softwares required according to https://github.com/artisan-roaster-scope/artisan/blob/master/wiki/Installation.md

Has anyone else encountered these issues and found a solution? With the "thermolink" software for center 301 there is no issue detecting or even receiving data from the meter.

I attached a few pictures of my settings and the error.

Thanks in advance,
Robin

You should not have to make any entries on that 'serial port' page at all if you are using a Center.
Your selection of the Center on the Configure > Device page > Meter should take care of all of your setting up.

What version of Artisan are you using?
Can you post a picture of your Configure>Device page?

And here are some directions for setting up

Agree with Susan on this, assuming you've already downloaded and installed the appropriate software for the Center.

Then select the Center 301 from the drop down menu and accept the default setting. If the software is not communicating, you can go back into the menus and select another com port and see if that helps.

Thanks for your replies! Im using the latest version of artisan and I tried the ports but didnt work. After alot of frustration I just went in to the ctrl alt delete and ended a process that looked strange (possibly a software interferring with artisan) and it started working again. Ill just have to see if this is something I must do frequently not to get this error..

As Hank and I pointed out, using the Center you should never have had to put anything at all into the Ports pages.   My best guess is that you have but that you don't know how to find it to remove it.  I would probably go with a Factory Reset (in the Help menu) and then starting over using the directions I linked you to previously.  You've got a gremlin that needs to be gotten out of the system.
Re-loading Artisan won't do it since your settings are in a different file from Artisan itself.

I have redone everything and it still does not work. Usually it doesnt work at first but after som reloading artisan and center 301 reboot as well as replugging usb port it starts. But not this time.. still getting the same error with temp readings "-1". Maybe it is my computer that automatically installs softwares... Im just so pissed right now.

PIctures of your Config > Device page might help.

Another try...

Usually in the "COMM port" it says "silicon labs.. COM3" but at the moment I haven't got it connected.

You are confusing Artisan.
There should be no entries on the Serial Port ET/BT page.

You tell Artisan on the Config Device page to look for the Phidget (Meter).
Then on the next page you tell it to look at Comm 3.
Your Serial Port page should look like the attached

When selecting phidget 1048 as device I get the same serial port page as you, but not with the center.

I'm confused.  Are you trying to use both the Phidget and the Center?

I only have the center 301. it was just an attempt at making something different. Ive tried factory reset it, then choosing center 301 but still get the already put in "silicon labs com3".

Hopefully someone who has used the Center equipment will be able to help you.  I'm only familiar with the Phidget.
You might get some help if you ask at the Artisan users list which is linked in the Artisan etc. section of Resources.

Good luck.  I'm sorry you are having so much trouble.

P.S.  I started a new thread to see if we could get some attention for your problem.  I hope you don't mind
