I'm too lazy to make the pictures smaller so I think this will take two posts

This definitely needs to be a sticky or would be awesome over on the resources side of the page. I would have really appreciated this information in the beginning. :)

I didn't quite follow this exactly how you did it and I might have over complicated my install, but I wanted a way to disconnect things without mixing wires up. Since we don't have a lot of space and with the worry of having to move things around, I wanted a fool proof way to disassemble and to re-assemble the Huky. I admit my approach is a bit excessive for the average Huky setup, but it has worked out as perfectly as anticipated for us.

To start off, you'll need the following:

  • Thermocouple yellow K-Type connectors. Requires
  • Electrical wire to be used as a jumper on the Phidget side. Requires between 16 - 26 AWG

I bought 3 of these K-Type connectors:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EQVTOEC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I bought the wiring from Radio Shack. I believe it's 22 or 23 gauge.

Installation is similar to what SusanJoM's. The only difference is you don't disconnect the K-Type connectors on the thermocouple wiring. You create jump cables similar to my attached pictures. I estimate my wiring is between 6 to 8 inches. I was able to label my Phidget jumper cables with zip ties I had laying around. A sharpie would also work for labeling the K-Type connectors.

Interesting.
You have the wires in the first (right most) position labeled ET.
I have my BT probe wires there.

I might have Artisan configured differently. It seems that if you configure it the way I've attached, you want to hook up the thermocouples in the following order on the Phidget:

  • ET
  • BT
  • MET

I wired the negative (black wire) to the bigger prong on the connector, and the positive (red wire) to the smaller prong.  Electronics is not my strong suit, but everything is working setup this way. I attempted to dig for this information all over the internet, but was unable to find any concrete information about it.

Note: I'll have to double check the extra devices attachment and correct it later if it's wrong. * Verified, it's setup exactly how my screenshots are uploaded. Using Artisan on Windows 8

Well if it works for you that's all that matters.
I've been using mine set up this way since I got it last August.

Definitely.  ;) I believe that your method is probably more simple and to the point compared to the extra steps I took. It was kind of a pain to hook up the female connectors to my jump wires, but I managed to get it to work.

Well, oddly enough Kenneroast and I have our Phidgets set up differently and they both work.

No idea how that can be, but it appears to be the case.  So, if you get a Phidget and you get weird readouts, just try switching the wires for ET and BT and see if that straightens it all out :-))))

And Barry (Dregs) seems to have come up with the answer we have been looking for.  It is here.

The readings from the two probes can be switched by clicking on this box in  Tools > Extras > HUD

Yes, I managed to flag this checkbox when I was tinkering around with things. I don't remember doing it, but mine is checked. Good find, SusanJoM.

How about installing the K-type TC into the Huky. I intend to replace the analog MET thermometer with a TC. Anything special I should know about how to do this?

Thanks,

james

The analog thermometer that comes with the HUKY is in the ET position (not MET).
It will simply screw out and the T/C (did you order it from Mr. Li?) will just screw into the same hole.
Here's what it looks like

Kenneroast, really like your idea of attaching female connectors to the reader. Might have to do that myself. I've already had several times in a couple weeks where I wished I could easily detach/attach the TC4 meter I have from the probes/Huky. :)

You're also correct that the black wire is negative and should be the bigger/wider of the two prongs. I also found a helpful article with a way to verify which wire is negative: the negative wire is more magnetic than the positive wire on a thermocouple probe. I tested this and it appears to be true.

Here's the article:

If you haven't already ordered your Phidget and you want plugs you can order them from Phidget at the same time:
