Gas gauge that comes on the HUKY
« on: October 23, 2015, 09:15:14 AM »
I just noticed in Breifne's picture of his new IR stove that the gas gauge goes all the way up to 10 kPa.

The one that came on mine originally went up to 7 kPa and I replaced it with one that only goes up to 3.75 kPa because that's all I use.

Who's getting which gauges on their new HUKY's?  I don't see how anyone can control the gas accurately with one that goes all the way up to 10....

Mine came with the 7 kPa gauge but, like you, I replaced it with the 3.75 kPa gauge.  Much more accurate and easy to use.

Mine came with the 10 Kpa gauge.

I agree that is no easy the gas with the gauge.

What I accidentally discover is that you can calibrate the gauge with the screw that is mounted in the gauge front face. Problem is that you need a calibration manometer to do a proper calibration. What I did was to assume that the max pressure of the system is 1 psi (max pressure from the regulator), turn the blue valve to fully open and the max pressure to 1 psi = 6.89 Kpa. This procedure gave me a better control at low pressure.

Im trying to source a better needle valve to have a better control over the gas power.

What I also like about that 3.75 kPa gauge is the right angle fitting so the gauge face viewing angle can just right.

"This one goes to eleven".
Actually, mine does go up to 10 kPa.  I'll be hunting for one in a lower range.  Gonna scour the forum for leads and see what I find.  Wish me luck.

Is the needle valve the blue knob that says 'open' and 'close' with arrows?

Here's the Dwyer 3.75 kPa gauge from Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00E6GE6UO?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00
The picture shows the top end at 2.5 kPa but that's wrong, it goes to 3.75.  Also this gauge comes with the fitting is on the side rather than the back, like the stock gauge, for a better viewing angle.

Thank you both very much.  It's on my Amazon wish list now.  That needle valve has such a wide range.  Did either of you change that out?

No, I kept the stock needle valve.  I find dialing the setting in works very well with the new gauge.

Got the Dwyer that goes to 3.75.  Unscrewed the bezel(it has threads, surprise, surprise) and "neatly" blacklined major points plagiarized from Susan's pic of hers.
Neatly for me anyway.  Lol
