Roaster is here....no Phidget
« on: February 24, 2016, 09:16:10 PM »
So my Huky is Here!!!! (#945)  :D
It actually arrived a lot faster than I thought it would. I have not purchased a Phidget yet and I am wondering if anybody knows where I could actually buy one in person so i can get it faster. From all my reading on the forum it seems the consensus is the phidget, but if someone has a less expensive and good alternative I would love to hear it.  I really like the Bluethermo Duo because I have an iPad and my wife isn't too happy about me "needing" her Macbook to run my roasting, but that is really expensive. I am snowed in for the next several days and really really want to start roasting, but if it is wisest to wait till i can log temperature i guess i can do that. Thank you for your help.

If I had a functional roaster but only analog ET probe that surely would not stop me from roasting. Charge at a desired BT+ 20F on your ET.  After 10 minute warmup at or above that temperature.  Heat at lowest for 1 minute no fan then crank heat to roast setting, fan on, damper at 1/2.  Watch that tryer and start decreasing heat at dry end 300F thereabouts on analog ET  back off again on heat as first crack starts to roll, open that damper all the way.

Drop points is up to you.

Enjoy hot coffee while snowed in!!

You can order a Phidget from Mill City Roasters too. They might have quicker shipping.

Thanks. I am going to try a roast or two later this evening. I can't stand seeing it sit there and not use it. This may be a dumb question but could I find a thermometer at Home Depot that I could plug my BT probe into to at least see the temp?

I ordered my Phidget from phidgets.com.  I ordered on 12/16 and received it on 12/17.  Mind you, I live in the shipping hub of the USA but I bet you could get it pretty darned quick if you just order it.
