Grease - type?
« on: September 24, 2016, 07:57:12 AM »
I purchased my Huky used and there was no grease with it. What type of grease do I need to buy?

High temperature food grade; try finding something on Amazon. Superlube has one but it doesn't come in a small size.

Would Dow Corning 111 work? I have some of this for use on my E61 espresso machine.

Product Specs:
Dow Corning 111 Valve Lubricant and Sealant maintains a serviceable consistency from approximately -70° to 400°F (-57° to 204°C) and has NSF 51, NSF 61 approval and is acceptable as a release agent under FDA 21 CFR 175.300, when used in accordance with that regulation

That doesn't sound like it can handle the heat of the Huky which get substantially higher in temp than 400 degrees F

Y'know the Dow Corning 111's rated to 400°F. The Super Lube and the other one on Grainger are rated at 500°F and 475°F respectively-- within 20% of the Dow Corning product. I wonder if the motor housing actually gets that hot back where the bearings are. Next time I roast, I'm gonna have a look-see.

I noticed Buckeye Roasters sells the hi-temp Super Lube for their machines. I'm going to orde a small tube next week, and pick it up in town.

Ok, I got a response from Mr Li as to recommended grease. Its a food grade grease (Reach 579) good to 550 deg F. I suspect its partly chosen as its the highest available and may not be a function of actual temperature conditions but I could be totally wrong. It does not seem to be available  within North America. As I am in Canada getting products like this always seems to be a performance with hidden brokerage/custom fees. Drives me crazy
