"Unable to open serial port"
« on: October 27, 2016, 06:19:24 AM »
Hi! A few days ago I received my huky 500T and have since had issues regarding the software artisan. I followed all the steps in the guide: http://coffeetroupe.com/artisandocs/installation/
and still I get the message "Unable to open serial port" as i press "ON". Have any of you guys encountered this issue? I can also add that artisan did work on one occasion, and the very next day I got this message somehow. I have attached and detached the probes to the center 301 thermometer but thats it.

Help much appriciated!

Robin

Hej Robin...
Jag svarar på engelska, men bara för att reta de andra lite så blir det en rad svenska. ;)
It's possibly some kind of software that is running in the background. You didn't say what kind of computer or thermocouplers interface you're using, which may help to sort this issue out.
A guess is that you're for example is running the Phidget software (maybe autostarted) but Artisan doesn't like that as Artisan only needs the drivers...
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

Thanks for your reply! After reinstalling the "CP210x..." it magically started working, but still having the same error message. I have windows 10 on my computer and thermocouple interface I have no idea what is used.. I have the "thermolink" thing but Im not sure if it's the kind of program you mean.

Well, you still don't mention which kind of interface you use for the thermocouplers, where a Center 30X thermometer or a Phidget 1048 are the most common choices.
The document you are refering to is very old, as Artisan pushes the 1.0.0 version. There is much more recent documentation available on this forum under "Resources" almost at the top of the right column of this page. Some documents are also available in the "Downloads" section in the horizontal menu above the forum listings.
It's a good thing that someone have done the documentation, as once you have Artisan working, you don't pay any attention to how you once got it working... :) (The one exception which comes to mind is Susan, who have put together the documents I mention here...)
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

As Edtbjon suggested, you should check these documents
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/0B4HTX5wS3NB2TFVid0h2TGxBWG8

If they don't get you sorted with your Center 301, you should probably upload images of the settings pages of Artisan so we can check them.

P.S.  If you have chosen the Center 301 as your Device on the first set-up page, there should be no need for Artisan to be looking for a serial port at all, so something has gone amok early on.

Just go in manually and switch the serial port from 1 to 4 or whatever, and try out the different choices. Let us know what happened......

Thank you for replying. I still have the same "error" in the top left corner of artisan, however the probes seem to be working anyways so I am happy with that. :-)
