Pre-Purchase Checklist
« on: November 06, 2016, 02:15:12 PM »
Hi everyone, I'm getting started here in the US and will be using a propane tank outside in either a garage or small patio to roast.

Here's what I'm planning to buy from Mr. Li:

-Huky 500T
-Propane IR Stove
-Extra probe for MET
-Extra sieve/tray
-Extra fan (for exhaust)
-Extra funnel
-Solid drum

And here's what I'll buy separately:

-Ducting to blow exhaust outside the garage, e.g.
-Phidget 1048 Temp Sensor
-Phidget 3810 Encrylic Enclosure for 1048
-Phidget 3810 mini-USB cable
-Phidget K-Type Thermocouple Adapter
-Variac or fan dimmer off Amazon to help control fan speed

Does anyone see any mistakes or glaring omissions I might have made?  Really excited and would appreciate any quick feedback!

-Alex

One possible addition:
What about the vent/exhaust bowl
https://www.hukyforum.com/index.php?action=gallery;sa=view;pic=14
It's a super kludgy design for sure, but most of us are using it.

And one or two subtractions:
the Phidget comes with its own USB mini cable, so you won't need to order one.
The K-type thermocouple adapter for the Phidget is unnecessary (mine didn't work in fact); you can just remove the plugs and use the bare wire.  See these directions for reference

Hi Alex,

I'm starting to earn money to buy a Huky in a couple of months and so far my checklist is pretty similar to yours.

Please report back and let us know if you would have bought other accessories.

Thanks

Thank you, everyone, for all the help.

Hankua, I was told by Mr. Li that I wouldn't need ET Thermocouple since I'd be getting the BT ET & MET all digital probe to use with my Phidget 1048.  Please let me know if I'm still not understanding what you meant there!  Thanks!

Most of us still don't know if Mr. Li speaks english, or if he uses some kind of translator.  :-\
If Mr. Li means that you don't need the "ET Thermometer" that is correct, but you do need an ET Thermocouple. (The thermocouple is an electronic digital device connected to something electronic, while the thermometer usually is an old fashioned analogue device.) To make real sure, find a picture with all three thermocouplers installed and send it to Mr. Li as clarification, like the one below. :) (Now, who does that beautiful roaster belong to?? :) )
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

Sounds good, if he means "a spare is not necessary because it has one already"; as in three thermocouples installed.
