Considering my order - Have a few questions
« on: December 09, 2016, 10:31:50 AM »
Hey everyone!

I'm on the verge of ordering my HUKY, and couldn't be more excited.  I just have a few questions before I go through with it.

To start, here in my current order list:
- HUKY500 T (Perf Drum, 48 RPM)
- IR Stove
- MET Thermocouple
- Extra : Bowl, Fan, Funnel, Sieve
- 304 Thermometer

Questions:
1. I will be roasting inside.  What are your thoughts on using propane inside?

2. I will be ordering the "phidget" to log my roasts through Artisan.  Does this render the 304 Thermo useless?

3. Being Canadian, I am looking to reduce costs as much as possible (My dollar is currently at 0.76 of the USD).  Does anyone have any recommendations on ways to cut possible costs?  Can an extra fan/exhaust bowl be bought local to shave of the extra $130 it would cost me to get from Mr.Li, or would Mr.Li's option still be the most economical?

Thanks in advance for your help, I can't wait to place my order and get back into roasting  8)

You do not need the Center if you are going to use the Phidget 1048.   That will save you a few Canadian Dollars....

About the exhaust bowl, it's custom made to fit the system. It does it's job well. Just see to that your oder includes two fans, sieves and funnels respectively (which seems to be the case...) You could even order two extra sieves, as the exhaust one gets very dirty after a while...
I do understand that you may have to pay extra for customs, but that is probably also superceeded by the shipping costs for an extra order...
... and as Susan says, the Center 304 isn't needed if you plan to use the Phidget 1048.
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

First I would explore using butane, as it's the safest for indoor use in the kitchen or other room. It's not going to be much fun roasting in the garage in sub-freezing weather.

And Mr. Li can ship surface instead of air, not sure if that's still an option but there is a saving. Change to the J pipe, one fan, two funnels and two screens. The vent/exhaust bowl is essential.....

There are some meters on eBay for @$50 that read two feeds, and roast with two thermocouples instead of three.

Basically shave it down to "bare bones" and in the end it's still a Huky.  :D
