Drum cracking noise?
« on: January 24, 2017, 01:02:39 AM »
Hi peeps,
I have read a few threads about drum noises on the forum but I think my problem might be slightly different. When empty, my drum is whisper quite when hot or when cold but when I load it with beans it start making cracking noises when hot or when cold. Below is a youtube link of a small video I made for illustration purposes. On the video I apply slight pressure to the top of the drum as if it was weighted down by beans. It is hard to determine where the noise come from too.
Any comments/ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like a rubbing or scraping noise, needs some further investigation. Maybe hand turn the drum and use a torch?

Thanks,  I've turned it by hand but can't hear anything. I forgot to mention as well that the huky is 2 roasts old.

Since you have the shroud off, what about checking for a tight spot between the faceplate and drum with a business card or strip of paper?

Since the noise is only heard when there is pressure (as seen in video) on drum, I would check the bearings.

Why don't you send the clip to Mr. Li and see what he has to offer?

Thannk you all for your suggestions,
I had another good look at my Huky and it seemed that my motor wasn't square with the drum side plate of the machine. I took a tape measure and fair enough, one of the 3 pins that are fixing the motor on that side plate was 3mm shorter that the others. I then dismantled the whole thing and found out that these pins where not square in relation to the motor either, there were all pointing in different directions! I straightened them but then couldn't put them back in their holes for tightening with the bolts so i put them back how they where and resorted to "fill" the gap of the shorter pin with a washer (see photo) and put it all back together. Did a roast and it was "whisper quite"!
