Cannot give more than 3kPa of gas.
« on: March 22, 2017, 01:50:06 PM »
Hey all,

I am using the provided propane IR stove from Mr. Li. I have gone ahead and replaced the stove's gas connection from the barbed connect to a standard US gas line connection.

In doing this I've had to buy a new regulator as well. I've already gone through two, the first did not let me pass 2 kPa.
My current regulator will not let me give any more than 3kPa of gas.

Has anyone else had any luck with a regulator replacement which will allow to (at minimum) 4 kPa on the IR burner?

Thanks!

Whats the rating on the pressure regulator?  I have a 30mbar and can't get a reading on the gauge over 2.5.  I have a 50mbar (5 kPa) pressure regulator on the way.

I got tired of the standard BBQ swedish 30 mBar regulator and got me an adjustable 30-100 mBar regulator. No problems with the Huky IR burner, pushing it to about 50 mBar (equals 5 kPa). I saw some data somewhere on the burner being able to cope with some 5-6 kPa, which seems right.
The Huky responds very good to the added gas pressure. Just do remember that a very light air flow makes the flame much more effective (as the burner needs a good mixture of oxygen and gas to burn effctively).
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

Could you link me the regulators you use?

In Canada I'm finding it difficult to find a regulator above 30mBar

You need a high pressure adjustable regulator, then turn it down to the max setting on you gauge. Here's one example. There are others as well.

What's wrong with the regulator that Mr. Li sent with the stove?  Or didn't he?  For US buyers a regulator comes with the stove;  maybe that's not the case in Canada?

I actually replaced the connection on the stove from the barbed connection to a screw-on connection just to ease the mind of everyone else in the house when it came to using gas.

I am also having the same issue with the Stock burner. with the variable pressure replacement can you get it hot enough to do 500g Charges and hit FC at around 8min?

You do have to charge a lot hotter than e.g. I or Hank do, but that has more to do with your intended FC @ 8min.
I personally seldom run 500g charges, but when I do, I charge at 150-160C (300-320F) having my TP at around 70-75C (160-170F). That approach gives me a DE at around 6.00 - 6.30 and a consequent FC at around 9.30 - 10.00.
But I guess that if I'd charge at say 200C/390F, I'd reach DE just shy of 5.00, from where I could navigate the roast to FC at around 8.00 if I'd wanted to.
For the record, I use a variable regulator, set to 50mBar, giving me a 5kPa reading when I max it out.
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

I got mine used but the previous owner had put a screw on connection with a Gas One regulator and my max is 10kpa....waaaaay too much

Thanks edtbjon - i guess that answers my question that i do need a new regulator.  ive been charging with 300g at 400F.  i usually hit FC around 8min.  the 3kpa isnt enough juice to get it hot enough for a larger charge or to have a lower starting temp.
