NEVER leave your HUKY while roasting!
« on: June 14, 2017, 06:03:27 PM »
Hopefully my title got your attention.

Folks, please never leave your Huky alone while roasting. Today the hose which connects to the rear propane connection of the IR burner caught on fire, luckily I was able to blow it out within seconds. I noticed afterwards that the hose was coming loose, which probably allowed a little bit of propane to leak. I also attached a photo to show where the burn marks are.

Was there a hose clamp on there when this happened?  Good thing you were there to fix the issue before it became a serious problem.

Okay, now get serious about preventing another leak.
We would hate to lose you ! ! !

No clamps, but I will definitely invest in one.

Thanks for the photos Susan.

Good thing you caught it!  I roast in my kitchen and I always make sure my fire extinguisher is at hand while roasting.

For sure this is why checking all the fittings with soapy water on each setup is a good practice. I have been using the Mr Li regulator with a standard propane tank and yesterday could not get gas to the stove. I had to thread the regulator deeper to activate the tank valve but that resulted in a gas leak (audible). I tried several times with more tape but could not get it tight.

I ended up switching to another tank. The thread fit was a lot tighter with no issues with the soap test. I still cannot understand what changed on the original tank. I had about 8 roasts on that with the regulator always left attached to the tank. This just talks to keeping safe practices. Picking up a fire extinguisher for my cart today.

This what I used to solve the issue with the stock regulator.  I would recommend it for anyone having propane flow issues.

Can you provide a picture showing components between the gage and the stove. Not clear how you set this up.

No other components necessary.  The stock regulator seats into the propane guage piece then attach to the propane tank.  I've not had any leaks or flow issues.
