Just got my Huky and I realized some pics had this thing on it and I don't. What exactly is it?

I just got mine too and was wondering that. I believe it is a slide that covers the holes in a perforated drum. if you turn it upside down, you'll see how it works

Correct.  It is the grate that opens and closes the direct heat into the drum.  Out is open, In is closed.  It may need a slight adjustment at times which is easy to figure out if look at it from the bottom.  Cheers.  :)

About half way down this post, you can see the grate.

Only the perforated drum setup comes with the grate. I'm not sure how many people use it; I think most leave it open.  I like variables so I play with it on occasion.
