And so it begins... .
« on: March 04, 2015, 09:32:48 PM »
Well, it actually began a year and a half ago when I started roasting with a popcorn popper.  I was pretty much hooked immediately. I already knew that I liked (understatement) coffee, but the sights, sounds and smells while roasting your own??  I was blown away.

I decided quite some time ago that I wanted to upgrade and started looking around for what I wanted.  I looked at and considered the Hot Top, Sonofresco, Behmor, and RK Drum but none  had the manual control that I really wanted.  And then I stumbled upon the Huky and I am so glad that I did.

I received mine not quite a week ago and have so far put about 7 roasts through it.  There is definitely a learning curve. I'm still trying to dial in the process and feel more than a bit clumsy but the more I roast I'm sure that will improve.  I had some initial bumps and burps with Artisan but I think that I now have that figured out.  For the next several roasts I'll just be trying to get a smooth RoR and then start tweaking the different phases to bring out different characteristics in the beans.  I look forward to the journey.

I do wish that I had found this forum earlier and/or done a bit more research as I see now that Mr. Li is offering a T pipe that looks interesting.  Also, I didn't think of asking him to replace the ET analog thermometer with a thermocouple.  Does anyone have a link for where I might be able to find one that fits the Huky?

Glad I found this place and look forward to reading and participating!!

Welcome!
Not sure if those stock probes are available anywhere in the US, but an email to Mr. Li will get you an answer. Maybe somewhere like Alibaba might have them. Here's Mr. Li's contact info:

I would suggest ordering it direct from Mr. Li.
That way you know it will behave the way you want it to and be the same as the other ones already installed.

My measly 2 cents....

Thanks!  I'll email Mr. Li to see what he has to say.

Definitely get it from Mr. Li, and maybe get a spare setup including the brass adapter in case another member wants to switch it out.  ;)

Thanks for the info!  I went ahead and ordered one from Mr. Li.  $28 with shipping which seams super reasonable to me.
