What sizes are Mr Li's probes?
« on: March 12, 2015, 03:07:58 AM »
On his blog Marko makes a good case for thicker probes. 3mm diameter looks about right.

Eyeballing the pictures it looks to me as if his default probe choice for ET/MET is probably 3mm but those I have seen in the BT position appear to be thinner.

Anyone here with a 3mm probe in the BT position?

I have noticed that Mr. Li does not always use exactly the same parts on all the HUKY's.  For example, the gas gauge on mine read from 0-7.5 kPa, whereas someone uploaded a picture of a guage he supplied that read form 0-10 kPa.   I only mention this because it is possible that there is also some inconsistency in the specs on the probes from one HUKY to another ....????

Just sayin...

I can't measure it because it is now installed, but this is the replacement probe I got from Mr. Li to replace the analog ET thermometer

Thanks Susan. Eyeballing that it looks like a 3mm probe, which would be consistent with what I have seen appears to be used by Mr Li in the ET and MET positions. My main concern is the BT probe - which appears to my eyes to be a narrower diameter probe on all of the Huky images I've seen. Wondering if there's a reason he can't get a 3mm probe in there....

Any idea what the two threads are?  I want to replace our analog BT with a probe.

analog in BT? I thought analogs only came in the ET location?

Someone recently ordered a replacement for the analog ET probe from Mr. Li and it was very inexpensive to have the correct one shiped from him.

Seems the path of least resistance to me....

Right, Susan.  My dumb typo.  The ET.  Mr Li responded to us.  The mount on the face of HUKY is 1/4 NPT.  The thread of the digital probe we have is M8.  A resourceful friend is tapping just such a fitting for us.

Have you looked into just getting a reducer?

The fitting a friend made works fine.  Our first effort was to take fittings at the hardware store but it failed because the probe ended up sticking halfway out of the HUKY giving a reading about 50C low.  We should have realized without going to that trouble.  Anyway it will work now thanks to that resourceful friend.
