Quick video of my Huky in action

I also have the IR burner...I use both the IR and the direct burner, but have been using the direct more lately.

The direct burner doesn't come with the Huky...It is a direct flame as opposed to the IR burner.

It provides more power, plain and simple...The stock IR burner provides adequate power as well, but something about having unlimited power makes me happy.

Thanks for sharing that video. Two variacs and two dataloggers- wow!
I was so close to buying a stove that looks like the one you use but I decided to wait and see how the stock IR stove worked and have been using that since I got the roaster. Can you estimate how much more heat it puts out?

I'd say probably twice as much.. But honestly you'll be satisfied with the stock IR burner.. It's plenty capable to handle a lb capacity. All that extra power I have isn't really necessary

A friend gave it to me..I have it hooked up to my cooling just so I can crank up the speed.. It's actually pointless.. Ha.. It's really just a backup

I see that you and I both believe in the "more is better" philosophy  ;D
I've been doing one pound roasts since day one and I haven't had any problems with the heat so I am happy with the IR stove. It's good to know there are alternatives though.

You are absolutely right!! More is better is bad for my wallet though  ;D

I've done plenty 1lb roasts with IR and it's more than sufficient.. Totally agree with you

So Johnny, the question is . . . is that Bayou burner large enough to also brew beer?  I'm looking to get a burner than can boil 7-8 gallons of water in something faster than forever.  Would be awesome to have a "dual purpose" burner around.

I've never brewed beer.. It's low pressure burner so I have no clue if it would work.

Bayou burners are quite popular for brewing, but some prefer a modded version for increased BTU's:
