Another Decision for New Purchasers: HUKY or HUKY T ????
« on: June 27, 2015, 10:03:27 AM »
You already know you have to chose between the solid and the perforated drum and between the slow and the fast motor (although chosing the solid almost always equals ordering the fast and ordering the perforated almost always equals ordering the slow).

But now you have another choice:  the original HUKY or the HUKYT.  It's not a slam dunk.  Do your research.  The T is not an obvious choice over the original just because it came later and it purports to solve some inconveniences in the original.  Some owners have added the T and then taken it off again.

Just pay attention;  go back and read as much as you can;  make a choice.  It's kinda like a sedan or a coupe.  One size does not fit all....

And is that because of the chaff blockages I've read about or are there other considerations? I just ordered the T but am thinking I'll change that to the J.

Chaff blockage is the only complaint I've heard about.

A day or so ago Mr. Li replied to me about this saying that chaff sticking to the tubing wall is caused by the moisture given off by the beans and the tubing should be rinsed out every couple of roasts.  Not having my Huky yet I don't know what that entails.

I asked him to switch my order to the J style.

Is there a price difference between the "J" and "T" configuration?

Yes, the J is cheaper.  I read here somewhere that another person who made the change got a refund from Mr. Li.

Yes, here are the current prices:

The HUKYT costs $82 more than the HUKY.

If you buy an original HUKY, the parts needed up convert it to a T cost $210.

We don't seem to have any information  on what the cost is for the parts to convert a HUKYT to a J configuration.  I'm guessing no one has asked to do that so far and that the people who have reverted already had the J in house.
