Anyone using Artisan with Windows 10?
« on: September 01, 2015, 07:00:40 AM »
I just got a new laptop and with the latest version of Windows 10. Artisan is displaying only -1.0F for the two temp probes. The datalogger is an Omega HH506RA with the IR232 connector- according to the Artisan documentation USB drivers aren't needed. Good thing because I can't find them on the Omega site or anywhere else. I've tried different COM ports and don't know what else to do. Suggestions? Please don't make me buy a Phidget  ;D

There seem to be issues with devices powered via USB on Windows 10 due to some new power saving modes. The Serial2USB chip from Profilic runs on power from the host, but Windows 10 takes that down in some cases.
Just saw this over on TMC

That post contains some hints towards a solution that might help you.

From Marko's response it sounds like the Phidget might have the very same problems.

Has anyone successfully run Artisan on Windows 10 using the Phidget?

That is an excellent question. I tried changing the registry values and different drivers but so far no luck.

I tried last night to finally hookup the phidget to linux setup... getting the same -1 readings.  Maybe I need to install an older version of ubuntu... So maybe isn't just a windows thing. Happy to see I'm not alone :)

Just figured it out. There was a driver/chipset problem. A new serial to usb adapter and installing this driver did the trick:

To break in the new laptop I chose the most excellent Yemen Red Marqaha. Unfortunately I forgot to activate the BT delta so you can't see the flick. It's there, small but present.
I've been using the technique recommended by Hank- raising the heat up high right at the turning point, then gradually dialing it down. Works like a charm Hank  :D
