Anyone have Mr Li's contact mail? or a ceramic bearing... :)
« on: November 04, 2015, 01:06:44 PM »
I broke my rear ceramic bearing when pulling my drum last week, thankfully I was able to roast with it anyway but I really need to replace that bearing. My mails to MR Li have so far gone unanswered.

kuanho.li@gmail.com is the last email contact I have for him, is it still correct?

How long has it been since you emailed him?  Sometimes he can take a day or so to get back.  I show that as his email but I haven't contacted him for a few months.

In case you want to try and order locally (some on amazon and Alibaba)  Here are the dimensions of the bearings

Excerpt from another post I made on dirty bearing:

"In case anyone cares or is looking for replacement bearings the outside diameter of the bearing is 16mm the inside diameter is 8mm the thickness of the bearing is 5mm."

Interesting.  Has anyone ordered additional bearings from Mr. Li?  I'm not sure what the typical cost is for that type of bearing, assuming it's 100% ceramic.  Here's a replacement of similar size for about $70:

Here's 10 bearings for $8.66; metal. Are they the right size?
http://www.amazon.com/Metal-Sealed-Groove-Radial-Bearings/dp/B00K86FHNQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1446680737&sr=8-1&keywords=16mm+x+8+x+5+bearing#descriptionAndDetails

They seem to be the correct size but we might need to consider whether they can handle the heat.  I noticed on the ceramic ones that were posted on this thread there was a heat rating.

Looks like it.  But, just putting it out there, there might be concerns for steel bearings operating at high temperatures:

Lubrication: main worry would be that the grease would polymerize, so you'd need to flush them with de-greaser and re-pack with high-temp grease before using them.

Expansion of components: an advantage of ceramic bearings over steel is that they don't expand much when heated.  Steel does expand, so if it goes out of tolerance, the bearing could lock up or get pretty crunchy.

Anyway I'm not sure if these concerns are actually valid or not - does anyone have any experience using steel bearings on the Huky?  I think it'll probably be OK, but might need a bit of monitoring at first.

Yeah steel bearing would be a no no. It'd heat up and literally weld it's self together. A ceramic coated bearing would due the same after the steel expands the cermaic would break and it would weld it's self together, at least temporally.  Problem is if you have beans in when it happens you will have a fire, and no way to dump them as the drum wont rotate.

$70 is quite much for what this bearing really is. I know the ceramic balls are a standard size and I have the outter ring, but the inner ring is what shattered, well along with login some of the balls. As a temp fix I'll pull the drum and slip a washer in so at least cold air stops getting sucked into the drum when I run the fan.

Sadly I sent him a mail about a week before this post so it's going on 2 weeks. Might be a holiday of some sort.

Someone reported that Mr. Li was out of town until the 18th.
That would explain your not having heard back....

Let us know when you get a hold of Mr Li, and how much he wants for extra bearings.  I'd buy a couple to have around.

Yeah, I think this would be a good group buy item.  I'd be happy to have some extras.

I would also buy some extra bearings if we set up a group buy. I'm a big believer in having spare parts on hand.  Has this issue been resolved for the OP?  We're you able to reach Mr. Li?

Cammie, I doublechecked your email for him and Mr Li's recent.  Your email for him is correct.

He is snowed under from being away two weeks recently but he will answer in a few days.  I must have caught him just right because he sent me a cable the next day with a tracking #

Good luck!

Ok, sent a new mail to him rather then responding to my order mail. Bearing is $18 each and $5 shipping.

I figured I'd let everyone know. I'm going to order 2 right now, I only need 1 currently (unless i mess up the other putting in the new one DOH!)
