Stock Gas Gauge Overlay Template
« on: December 10, 2015, 04:06:09 AM »
Not sure if this is useful to anyone else but posting anyways. Also not sure if this is the right forum, mods feel free to move if needed.

Just playing around with a template to overlay better kPa details on the faceplate of the stock gas gauge. Not very elegant solution yet but for now, it'll do.

It's a 7cm x 7cm image after printing so it fits nicely over the gauge and still allows you to see the tip of the needle. But scale and print as you see fit

1) Print on your favorite material (card stock, thick paper, laser etch onto metal, etc)
2) Cut along inner and outer circle
3) Align
4) Affix to gauge (can just scotch tape over it if you want).

Post limits me to jpeg image only, let me know if you want the Photoshop file to customize to your needs

Very nice.
Now, you need to upgrade to a 3.75 kPa gauge and make one for THAT  ;D

Wow.  How do you ever read those tiny little increments?  This one only goes up to a max of 3.75 kPa.

@Jyalpert, how are you getting up to 5 or even 7 kPa?

The original gas regulator that came from Mr. Li output 5 kPa and I could get up to 4.75 kPa on his stock gas gauge and needle valve. The stock regulator died on me a few months back and sadly that kind of regulator is not available in Thailand, only 4 kPa output is available here so I can only get up to 3.75 kPa on the gauge and needle valve. Though I did get a gauge with a shutoff timer, high pressure side gauge (measuring tank side so I know how much gas is left) and a safety kill dial as well as much beefier gas hose.

I will be ordering the T connector and front faceplate  soon and will ask to get a new regulator from him as I'd like that extra 1 kPA headroom back.

But if you're getting more than 5 kPa, I'd love to know how. Batch capacity of a roaster is dictated both by drum dimensions and the burners BTU rating.

@SusanJoM, as for changing the gauge itself, if I do ever swap out the stock one, I'd like to go with a transducer that gives a signal back to Artisan to automatically log gas pressure as discussed in some previous post.

But that mod is on the back burner (literally haha) as I've been researching our next roaster now that I'm moving from development on the Huky to production on something bigger soon (I hope).

Well, I guess we can't goad you into making changes on your HUKY at the point, but thanks for sharing what you've done so far.

What are you considering as your next step?

@ CGWayne: The "normal" (and "nomally" priced ones) regulators here in Sweden are 30mBar, which gave me a max reading of around 2.6kPa. I later got me an expensive adjustable regulator with which I can give the burner much more than it can cope with. (I normally set that one for a max of 5 kPa.)
Getting to the point, I did actually cope very well with the cheap one. A wild guess is that you can source the "common" gas regulator for less than $10, which if it gives you 3.75 kPa should suffice. I don't think that adding 33% more gas (i.e. up to 5kPa) would give you 33% more heat. (It's a bit hard to measure, but from the looks of it, maxing the pressure up to 7.5kPa didn't look any different from 4-5kPa.)
It's a small but effective burner, made to be used with a "normal" gas regulator. Mr. Li's modifications (my guesses) is only with the gauge and possibly connection to make it work better with our beloved roaster. :) It's basically a small household kitchen stove.
Now, dare I roast even lighter?
