So, it appears this new arrangement will give more clearance between the fan and the stove. Just a couple more inches would sure be nice. I'd like that even more than the ability to load the beans without temporarily disconnecting from the fan.

If I remember correctly, there was some talk about this earlier, and I think the upshot is that extending that pipe further puts the machine out of balance....
But my memory never was any good and now it's worse :-)))

New HUKY buyers to decide which model they want to buy....decisions, decisions, decisions.....I'm glad I don't have to choose...

Hi Johnny,
Old Huky upgrade requires cut  the chimney(Attach Huky500T 04) or replace a front plate.
The "T" diversion pipe separation pour green beans and exhaust.
Huky500T exhaust and cooling separately,I recommended that the need for extra fan, tray and funnel.

Perforated drum------------98 USD (Shutter come with Perforated drum)
"T" diversion pipe cost ---136 USD
front plate cost ---------------74 USD
 Shipping-----------------------58 USD

That's a nice setup! Looks like you get two funnels? I've been waiting for the 'tee' version to be finalized. Now it's time to put in an order.

Cool, but I'm still not completely clear what is better here, and why it costs more now. So it looks to me like the advantage to the new config is you can load beans through the top without having to then disassemble the J-pipe?

Looking at the new config, the funnel pointing up, where you load the beans. What will happen to this now once you start roasting? I'm guessing you load the beans, then flip that wood handle that will close that part of the pipe?

I searched, and found, some older Huky threads on other forums. People back then were commenting how the trier was not working all that well. Have those issues been resolved?

Mike.
Let's go back a few steps in "history". The intention of Mr. Li was to use one fan/sieve/funnel. The user then reconfigured the machine on the fly at both load and drop. Most of us orders an extra fan/sieve/funnel to get rid of that reconfiguration part at the end of the roast, as we want full control when the roast is at its highest speed.
The idea with the T-connection is to take away the first reconfig, i.e. not having to divide attention to balancing a hot exhaust while trying to focus on the roast, data-logging and not least that delicious shot of newly brewed espresso by your side. :)
There is an issue with the Huky where some beans get cought in the exhaust, which is remedied by a quick blow down the exhaust a few times during the roast. (Developing a routine, e.g. at load, DP, 1Cs is good.) Now, that takes lifting the exhaust off the machine, which again is messy and hot to handle. The T-connection is good for that too, just flick the handle...
It seems that the issue with the trier is partly solved. Mr. Li seems to weld all of them at an angle (10deg?). This makes it better, but again some beans get cought there too. Adding a twist to the trier is another good thing to add to the above mentioned routine...
Now, dare I roast even lighter?

Am I missing something here? I understand the new T design is great if you are planning to use a cyclone chaffe collector, but if not, you still have to deal with handling a hot exhaust pipe to dump the chaffe at the end of the roast. I guess it eliminates one handling of the pipe.

Good point especially for people who do back-to-back roasts.
I don't, so I can just let that chaff sit there until everything cools off.

And/but it's not clear that the 500T is going to replace the 500.
It may well be just another configuration for thems that think it will work best for them.....

Heck, I still drive a standard shift car, and how long ago did the world think automatic transmissions would replace them????

Yeah, I think I'll leave well enough alone.  I'll dance with the one what brought me.  I confuse easily and I'm just getting used to the old set up.
